His retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on court had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to push for a decider.

He rescued four initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
