The platform is rolling out a fresh option that allows them to lessen the quantity of AI-created videos appearing in their streams. This move comes as the company announced that it currently hosts over 1 thousand million content made with AI.
Pilot Phase and Launch
The update is being tested over the following weeks before a widespread launch. This development aligns with a rise in AI content, driven by emerging content generation software.
AI Content on Other Platforms
Recent reports that almost 10% of the fastest-growing content creators on a competing service only show clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this content is deemed mass-produced AI material, a term for substandard, bulk-generated content that is often absurd or surreal.
Based on user feedback that many people enjoy content created using AI tools, including computer-generated images to science explainers, and we want to offer the community the ability to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” commented a company executive.
Scale of AI Content
The service shared that there are now 1.3bn videos on its network tagged as AI-generated. Collectively, over 100 mn media items are submitted to the service daily, making AI-generated material a relatively small portion of its total content library.
Customizing Your Feed
Members will be able to decrease or raise the level of AI content they see by using the content preference feature in the application and choosing “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that can already be adjusted under the filter cover politics, style, beauty, and choreography.
AI Disclosure Rules
TikTok’s rules require content makers to identify “realistic” artificially created content, and it prohibits harmful deepfakes of public figures or emergencies. Any believable AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be removed under its user guidelines.
Additionally, the app will from now on add an artificially created tag to content created with its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This action is aimed to help prevent users from seeking to circumvent the tagging system.
AI Literacy Programs
The company is also introducing a $2m educational fund for professionals and organizations to create learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will benefit educational bodies specializing in educating programming and robotics.
Platform Protection
The video-sharing app has defended its content review process, amid discussion over intentions to cut jobs for hundreds of review team members in the United Kingdom. It is set to reduce 439 jobs in its content moderation division in the UK capital, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that humans are being replaced by machine-led review.
A trust and safety lead stated that human moderation would continue to be important, but automated tools can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content before it is viewed by people. The platform announced a notable drop in disturbing and violent content reviewed by human moderators over the previous year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.
“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to keep the platform safe,” she said. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to limit contact with unsafe media as rapidly, which is why a significant AI assistance is making a difference operate efficiently.”
